London

London is the capital and largest city of both the United Kingdom and England. Standing on the River Thames in southeastern England, 50 miles (80 km) upstream from its estuary with the North Sea. Founded by the Romans London has been a major settlement for two millennia.  The City of London, London's ancient core − an area of just 1.12 square miles (2.9 km2) and colloquially known as the Square Mile − retains its medieval boundaries.

The City of Westminster, where this year’s IPIC Conference will be held, is an Inner London borough holding city status.

Church House

One of the capital’s true hidden gems, Church house is set within Dean’s Yard and offers a peaceful and green setting along with stunning views of Westminster Abbey whilst being only a few minutes’ walk from Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament and St James’s Park. Church House is served by excellent transport links and are within easy walking distance of both Westminster and St James’s Park underground stations, Victoria, Waterloo and Charing Cross mainline train stations.

This year IPIC will be hosted by the Transport Systems Catapult. The Transport Systems Catapult is the UK’s technology and innovation centre for Intelligent Mobility, harnessing emerging technologies to improve the movement of people and goods around the world. We are here to support business growth, increase the UK’s share of the global Intelligent Mobility market, and attract investment – creating jobs and generating long-term economic growth.

The TSC help sell UK capability on the global stage, while also promoting the UK as a superb test bed for the transportation industry. With a clear emphasis on collaboration, they bring together diverse organisations across different modes of transport, breaking down barriers and providing a unique platform for meeting the world's most pressing transport challenges.

The Transport Systems Catapult is one of an elite network of not-for-profit technology and innovation centres established and overseen by the UK’s innovation agency, Innovate UK. For more information, please visit ts.catapult.org.uk

The United Kingom: A Freight Powerhouse

The sector is largely dominated by road transport, but 17.2 billion tonne kilometres of freight is also moved by rail and 31.4billion tonne kilometres of freight was transported by water.

Internationally the UK is the second largest exporter of services in the sector behind the United States and the largest contributor in Europe to the air transport, postal and courier service segments.  3 million goods vehicles travel from Great Britain to mainland Europe annually and UK Ports handle 484 million tonnes of freight per year.
